SALEM, MARCH 22. The Salem Corporation has won a special award for successfully privatising the maintenance of streetlights, in an all-India conference and exhibition conducted at Chennai recently, a release from the Corporation said. The Corporation had been selected for the award as it had saved Rs. 25 lakhs by privatising the maintenance work. It had also presented with a memorial award for deputing maximum number of workers for tsunami relief operation. The Corporation Commissioner, T. Paulsamy, handed over the awards to the Mayor, R. Sureshkumar, at a function here today, the release added.
