Night flights from Hubli approved

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI, MARCH 22. The Director General of Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the operation of night flights from the Hubli Airport.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviations has sent a communication in this connection to the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

Pralhad Joshi, BJP MP from Dharwad North, described the development as a harbinger of progress of North Karnataka.

Mr. Joshi speaking to The Hindu on phone from New Delhi said he had raised the issue several times with the Union Minister, Praful Patel, as well as in Parliament. It was only on March 4 that the AAI inspected the facilities available at the Hubli Airport and reported that it had facilities for starting night operations, Mr. Joshi said.

Meanwhile, it is said that the AAI is in the process of replacing the existing MIRL (Medium Intensity Runway Lights) with HIRL (High Intensity Runway Light) and would also provide a control panel at the Control Tower.
