SANAA (YEMEN): A Sanaa court on Tuesday handed down two-year jail terms to six Yemenis accused of Al-Qaeda membership and began the trial of another batch of suspects charged with plotting to attack Western targets in Sanaa. Eight defendants in the new trial are facing charges of forming an armed gang to carry out attacks, forging passports and other documents, and possessing arms and explosives, judicial sources said. The prosecution has accused the eight of plotting to attack the British and Italian embassies and the French cultural centre in the Yemeni capital. The group of 11 Al-Qaeda suspects against whom verdicts were delivered on Tuesday had been accused of planning to carry out ``criminal acts'' . The court sentenced six of them to two-year prison terms while clearing the five others of all charges. AFP
