KARAIKAL, MARCH 22. The Pondicherry Government is planning to send specialists to the General Hospital here on specified days for providing special treatment to patients suffering from cancer, heart and kidney problems, said E. Valsaraj, Minister for Health, Pondicherry, here on Monday. The Minister who inaugurated a 50-bed eye block constructed at a cost of Rs.95 lakhs at the General Hospital here, said that the Government would ensure availability of all life-saving drugs, including anti-rabies vaccine, etc., at the primary health centres in all the villages. He pointed out that epidemic outbreak was prevented after the tsunami because of the good work done by the Health department staff and sanitary workers. Mr. Valsaraj said that the Union Territory Government had achieved tremendous development in the field of health services in the country and pointed out that the infant mortality was very low in the State among other States in the country. M. Chandrakasu, Minister for Industries and Social Welfare, presided over the function. Dr. S. Sundaravadivelu, Regional Administrator, Karaikal, R. Kamalakannan and V.M.C. Sivakumar, MLAs and others spoke. Earlier, Dr. G. Subramanya Reddy, Director of Health and Family Welfare, Pondicherry Government, welcomed the gathering. Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Superintendent of GH, proposed a vote of thanks.
