NCC role lauded

NEW DELHI MARCH 22. A two-day conference of the National Cadet Corps' Deputy Directors-General opened here today. Addressing the gathering, the Defence Secretary, Ajai Vikram Singh, commended the NCC for its contribution towards nation-building, helping out people during national calamities and producing many illustrious citizens in different walks of life.

While the Rashtra Bhasha shield for good work in implementation of the official language Hindi was awarded today, a vision document of the NCC, along with a roadmap for making the organisation more effective in the next five years, would be released on the second day of the conference.

Bhagat Singh portrait unveiled

NEW DELHI MARCH 22 . A portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was unveiled on the eve of his 75th year of martyrdom here today. The Chief Patron of the Bhagat Singh Foundation, Swami Ramdevji, who unveiled the portrait, paid glowing tributes to the great freedom fighter.

"We should follow the great martyr's ideals and help the weak and the vulnerable of our society. We should strive to make our country great in every respect," said Swami Ramdevji.

The Chairman of the Bhagat Singh Foundation, K.C. Yadav, and other officials of the foundation present on the occasion, expressed their gratitude to Swami Ramdevji for unveiling the portrait made by artist Bhimrao Murgod.

Speedy justice in BSF

NEW DELHI MARCH 22 . The annual law conference aimed at identifying grey areas, taking stock of discipline and suggesting innovative methods of providing speedy justice to the Border Security Force personnel was inaugurated by its Director-General, R.S. Mooshahary, in the Capital today.

The conference also deliberated on the need to sensitise the BSF officers on human rights. As the BSF is the largest border guarding force with a unique system of court martial and having powers under various laws, special attention is being paid towards legal training of officers and subordinate officers.

Holi Milan organised

NEW DELHI MARCH 22. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organised a Holi Milan and closing ceremony of its annual sports meet at Talkatora Indoor stadium here today.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said Holi was the festival of colours and should be celebrated without taking into consideration caste and creed.

She also extended Holi greetings to NDMC employees.

The NDMC Chairperson, Sindhushree Khullar, distributed prizes to the winners of various sports events organised during the month of February and March.
