India & World
By Sridhar Krishnaswami
WASHINGTON, MARCH 22. The United States today said that the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice's visit to India was productive and that the U.S. was looking forward to taking the bilateral relationship to "an even greater strategic partnership." The deputy spokesman of the State Department, Adam Ereli discounted the notion that Dr. Rice had created a controversy regarding the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi's U.S. visa. "Secretary Rice did have an excellent visit to India. Secretary Rice and the Prime Minister and [the] Foreign Minister were able to talk about all aspects of what is a strengthening relationship between the United States and India and we look forward to taking that relationship to an even greater strategic partnership. And that is ... the overall impression one would take away from the visit," Mr. Ereli said.
