HYDERABAD, MARCH 22. Sales tax exemption, restoration of disconnected power service and other sops will be offered for revival of sick small-scale industries (SSIs). These concessions will be effective from April 1 when the new industrial policy will come into force with new features, the Major Industries Minister, B. Satyanarayana, informed the Assembly on Tuesday. Replying to a question tabled by Challa Ramakrishna Reddy (Congress), the Minister attributed the sickness of SSIs to lack of market, shortage of working capital, non-availability of raw material, power shortage, and problems relating to labour, marketing, equipment and management.
Municipal polls
A wordy duel took place between the Municipal Administration Minister, K. Ranga Rao, and Y. Ramakrishnudu (TDP) over elections to municipal bodies. Mr. Ramakrishnudu alleged that the Government was going ahead with its hidden agenda to postpone the polls and replace the elected bodies with special officers. The Minister firmly denied the charge.
