HYDERABAD, MARCH 22. The Government has decided to recruit 1,000 doctors and 1,200 nurses on priority basis to ensure their availability in remote and tribal areas, according to the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah. Replying to a debate on the facilities in Government general hospitals in the Assembly on Tuesday, he admitted that the healthcare administration needed to be qualitatively improved. The Government, as part of the effort to provide health care to all citizens, was making systematic efforts to strengthen the existing hospital network, provide adequate staffing and funding.
100 cr. for PHCs
The infrastructure in PHCs would be strengthened at a cost of Rs.100 crores. To reduce maternal mortality and improve obstetric care, the Government was contemplating expanding emergency obstetric care facilities. Declaring that the Government was committed to improve the quality of medical education, he said that a decision was taken to build up a separate cadre to man teaching hospitals. He said that 215 vacancies of assistant professors in medical colleges were being filled.
