Pathanamthitta
By Our Staff Reporter
PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 22. The week-long `work-to-rule' agitation launched by the United Forum for BSNL Executives has reportedly affected the online money transfer facility of various public as well as private sector banks in Central Travancore. The parents of many students studying outside the State, especially Bangalore, were complaining of frequent failure in their online money transfer facility at various banks in the district. Talking to The Hindu here today, a parent, who himself is a bank manager in Thiruvalla alleged that the money he had sent from Thiruvalla to his son studying for BDS in Bangalore by Express Money Transfer scheme of two leading nationalised banks three days ago was yet to reach its destination. Many parents in Pathanamthitta have also complained that they were not able to arrange online money transfer to their wards studying outside the State, especially when they needed money for coming home during the Easter vacation.
Phone network
The land as well as cellular telephone network was also affected in different parts of the Secondary Switching Area, especially in Pathanamthitta, Ranni, Mallappally, Adoor and Konni. Frequent signal failure from the Base Transmitting Station in Thiruvalla town weakened the mobile network in the town today. Meanwhile, the Sanchar Nigam Executives' Association district leader, C. K. Thomas, said that their non-co-operation agitation since March 15 would continue till their demands are met.
Main demands
The agitating officers' main demands include, implementation of non-post based time-bound promotion as promised by the BSNL management prior to their absorption to the BSNL, 100 per cent weightage of their service rendered in the respective parent organisation, stoppage of parallel post promotion and direct recruitment of management trainees, says Mr. Thomas. He called upon the BSNL authorities to resolve the issue without any further delay.
