Vice-Chancellor violated KAU Act, say unions

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, MARCH 22. The leaders of the three service organisations in the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) have alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, K. V. Peter, has violated the University Act by dispersing the recent University General Council meeting without properly presenting and passing the University budget.

In a joint representation to the Governor who is also the Chancellor of the University the leaders asserted that as per the University Act `presentation and discussion on the budget can be held only after the question hour, and that too only by adopting a motion to change the order of business.'

Mob interference

But the VC had dispersed the meeting immediately after the commencement of the question hour, owing to unauthorised interference by a mob.

It may also be noted that VC did not seek police protection for the smooth conduct of the business of the General Council even though sufficient policemen were available at the venue, the leaders alleged.

Pointing out that as per the Act, the University can not spend a single paise from April 1 onwards if it has not properly passed its budget the leaders requested the Governor to convene a special General Council meeting for properly passing the budget.

K. V. Jose of the KAU Farm Workers' Union, affiliated to the CITU, K. Chandramohanan of the KAU Employees Federation and P. V. Mohanan of the KAU Employees Association are the signatories to the representation.
