CHENNAI, MARCH 22. Village panchayats will get an additional provision of Rs. 219.35 crores made in the Final Supplementary Estimates (FSE) for 2004-2005. The amount is required to help them in settling power tariff dues to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). Of the supplementary demands for Rs.10,728.52 crores, Rs. 3,005.04 crores is in the revenue account and Rs.1,645.04 crores in the capital account, including Rs.1,364.65 crores for prior period capital expenditure and Rs. 6,078.44 crores in the loan account. The additional provision required for various schemes in the FSE includes Rs.29.76 crores for scholarships and stipends to Adi Dravidar students, Rs.44.10 crores for construction of buildings for government hostels for these students and Rs.106.17 crores for payment of arrears and advance grant to the TNEB on behalf of farmers using farm pumpsets. The Government has so far sanctioned Rs.901.88 crores towards relief works in tsunami-hit areas, Mr.Ponnaiyan said. A sum of Rs.720.56 crores was included in the supplementary estimates. An additional Rs.300 crores required for payment to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) for procurement support, Rs.259.99 crores towards food subsidy and other payments to the TNCSC, Rs.225 crores for compensating the shortfall in revenue due to a reduction in tariff to domestic consumers, Rs.60 crores to the TNEB for the Jeyamkondam lignite power project and Rs.27.87 crores for maintenance of rural roads also found a place in the FSE.
