BANGALORE, MARCH 22. Information technology companies are dictating terms to the Government and obtaining concessions in tax and other facilities such as land and infrastructure at subsidised rates, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) member, G.V. Srirama Reddy, alleged in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. Many multinational IT companies set up shop in Bangalore because of concessions extended by the Government. Similar concessions should be extended to farmers and public sector enterprises. IT majors such as Infosys and Wipro have received all types of facilities from the Government without any investment and achieved a high rate of growth and profits. Their contribution to Bangalore and society was nil, Mr. Reddy said. Mr. Reddy, who was participating in a discussion on budget, said the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, had made a statement in the budget that the "share of the tertiary sector in the State economy during 2004-05 has been 53 per cent." Mr. Reddy urged the Government to provide details on jobs given by IT firms to Kannadigas.
