Unity, friendship mark Tech-A-Break

It's rollicking,' the words uttered by a software professional sums up the mood at `Tech-A-Break,' an annual cultural extravaganza organised by Technopark, one of Asia's finest technology park in the capital city, on Tuesday.

Screams of excitement and cat-calls rented the air, as thousands of employees from various companies crowded the open-air theatre `Sangamam' to witness the main event of the day, an `inter-company' dance competition.

The contest proved to be a `rip-roaring-rocker,' with the delirious crowd tapping their legs in tune with the latest numbers from Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam films.

Twenty-eight teams took part in the competition, which began at 7 p.m. Each group was allotted a time limit of seven minutes. The teams were required to represent at least four members in its group.

The best team will be selected based on synchronization, overall performance, steps, style, presentation and innovation, according to the organisers.

"It's one of the few occasions when we get to meet all the employees working here," said Baiju Gopinath, an employee with one of the software companies. "This feeling of unity and friendship is truly an overwhelming experience," he said.

Spread across an area of 180 acres, Technopark has around 70 companies of national and international repute.

The `inter-company' dance contest, which captured the spirit of the festivity, was preceded by a light music competition. A total of 184 contestants took part in the competition in various categories, namely light music, classical and English.

Today's programme

On Wednesday, the second day of the event, `Fun `n' games with Tech-A -Break,' will be the main attraction. The games feature sports and games followed by a discotheque. The event will take off with a marathon run holding a torch and will culminate at Technopark where the Tech-A-Break Flame will be lit. The relay will be carried out from a pre-notified point by one selected individual from each company followed by members of that company.

The games include tug of war, the Egyptian Mummy, pop them balloons, hurdles and skiddles and connectivity. The sports event will culminate with a disco that promises to keep your legs tapping and heads shaking. The celebrations will conclude on March 30, with a `Total Remix Explosion' by Shivamani.
