KOLLAM, MARCH 22. The nation-wide bank strike held today under the banner of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) was total in Kollam district. All public sector banks remained closed. The new generation banks, most of them located along the Asramam Road at Chinnakada, opened for operations in the morning. But the UFBU supporters called upon the employees of these banks to express solidarity with them and join the stir. However, the ATMs of all banks functioned normally. The district convener of the UFBU, M.M. Ansari, said that the strike was a success in the district. The bank employees took out a march through the city raising slogans in support of their demands. Union leaders, P.A. Cyril, Gopakumar, led the march.
