Clear skies

CHENNAI, MARCH 22 . There will be mainly clear skies on Wednesday, with the minimum temperature around 25 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24.9 degrees Celsius. At Meenambakkam, the corresponding temperatures were 34.9 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels were 79 per cent and 80 per cent.

Workshop

Clinical psychologists from Society for Mental Health and Psychological Awareness are conducting a one-day workshop on `Insight into the little known world of body language' on Sunday. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dr. M. Dhanraj Clinic, 19, Panchali Amman Koil Street, Arumbakkam. For registration, contact Kavitha Dhanraj on 9840244405.

College fete

SRM Nightingale Matriculation Higher Secondary School, West Mambalam, celebrated its valedictory function for the academic year 2004-05. Aranga Ramalingam, Head of Tamil Department, University of Madras, presided over the function and distributed prizes to winners of various competitions such as English and Tamil recitation, quiz, music and Thirukkural recital.

Counselling

Christ Faith Home for Children, an NGO, conducted a eight-day camp to provide psycho-social support to tsunami victims of Pudupattina Kuppam and Uyyalikuppam in Kalpakkam. Besides counselling, a variety of games, sports and recreation programmes were organised for the victims, who suffered from trauma and depression. Maida Raja, founder of the NGO, says the intervention will continue till the affected people get back to normal.

Medicines donated

Tablets India, one of the largest manufacturers of medicines, donated medicines to tsunami-affected places including Kalpakkam, Cuddalore, Nagercoil and Sri Lanka.

The drugs, worth around Rs. 6.85 lakhs, were distributed through Lions Club, Round Table and Board of Cricket. A cheque for Rs. 2.23 lakhs, donated by the staff of the company, was handed over to Lakshmi Pranesh, Chief Secretary by P. S. Rangaswamy, vice president (Finance).
