TIRUCHI, MARCH 22. The Tiruchi Corporation has bagged three awards at the State-level exhibition of the programmes and activities of the local bodies held at Chennai recently, according to the Commissioner, Harmander Singh. The awards were given to the corporation for effective implementation of the sanitation campaign through construction of Integrated Sanitary Complexes and toilet waste management, taking part in tsunami relief measures through deputation of a team of sanitary workers and officials and the stall put up by the civic body at the exhibition.
Inspection
All the Town Planning sections in the corporation ward offices were also inspected by a team of senior officials led by the City Engineer, V. Sivaraman, based on the orders of the Commissioner. The team scrutinised applications seeking building plan approvals and whether the officials processed them within the specified time limit. The corporation has also initiated action against 246 persons for constructing buildings without obtaining plan approval from the civic body. In a release, the Commissioner said cases have been filed against 96 persons in Srirangam zone in this regard, 59 in Ariyamangalam, 53 in Golden Rock and 38 in K. Abishekapuram. He warned of action against those who dump construction materials on the roadside. Besides confiscation of the materials, the owners of the buildings would also be liable to pay fines.
