HYDERABAD, MARCH 22. In a bid to promote water conservation and recycling of waste water, the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced 50 per cent discount in the monthly sewerage cess for a period of two years to institutions which take up recycling of waste water at least up to the secondary level. Similarly, in the case of new connections a discount of 20 per cent in the water/sewerage connections charges would be extended to establishments that take up waste water treatment at least up to the secondary level. The HMWSSB managing director, B.P. Acharya, made the announcement here on Tuesday marking the World Water Day celebrations. The Board would sell the recycled water for industrial use, gardening, washing and construction purposes at a heavily subsidised rate.
Collector's directive
The Hyderabad Collector, Arvind Kumar, on Tuesday directed all the Mandal Revenue Officers to initiate stern action against those indulging in commercial exploitation of groundwater in the city. He wanted them to launch a special drive against those exploiting groundwater and seize all such bores and tankers instantly.
