THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. MARCH 22. The Syndicate of the University of Kerala has decided not to recognise the courses and degrees given by universities within its affiliation territory that are operating without the knowledge or permission of the university or of the State Government. It has come to the attention of the University of Kerala that many such universities, including private universities, are offering regular degree, PG and M.Phil courses in locations coming under its affiliation jurisdiction. This has prompted the university to take such a decision, a pressnote issued here today said. The degrees granted by such institutions would not be recognised under any circumstances, the Syndicate has decided.
Show-cause notice
The Syndicate, at its meeting today, also decided to send a show-cause notice to the Mary Matha College of Engineering, Paliode, seeking reasons why the college's affiliation should not be cancelled. This decision was taken after the three-member Syndicate team set up to study allegations of mass copying in the college during a recent B. Tech examinations submitted a report saying there was prima facie evidence of mass copying in the college and of the involvement of the college authorities in the same. The college has been given 15 days to submit a reply. The meeting decided to make appointments of 13 lecturers and one reader in various teaching departments. It was also decided to take action against the SD College, Alapuzha, for admitting more students than the sanctioned limit for various courses. The proposal to set up a yoga and fitness centre at the university stadium was also approved by the Syndicate. Syndicate member Varghese Perayil had been asked to submit a report on this matter.
Doctorate
The Syndicate decided to give doctorates to K. V. Ansa Mathew, C. J. Mohan Kumar (Chemistry), Suresh Subramanian( Management), K. Joy (Physics), M. Bindu ( Physical Education), Chris George ( English), R. Manoj, C. S. Sumangali Devi ( Malayalam), K. V. Tara, S. Jayanthi (Sanskrit), A. Mohammed Thaha ( Arabic), J. Premchand ( Commerce) P. Mohammed Kunhu and to M. Abdul Rahim (Islamic Studies).
