BANGALORE, MARCH 22. Leading travel agents accredited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) staged a demonstration in front of Air India's office here on Tuesday in protest against the "unilateral" decision of airlines to reduce agents' commission from seven per cent to five per cent from May 1. The agents, who organised the demonstration under the banner of the Travel Agents' Federation of India (TAFI), said a two per cent reduction in the commission will bring down their income by over 30 per cent.
Job losses
"This will lead to job losses for several agency staff members," they added. TAFI, along with the Travel Agents' Association of India (TAAI), has among its members all IATA-accredited travel agents, who generate over 85 per cent of the travel business.
