BANGALORE, MARCH 23. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, on Tuesday said the coalition government will encourage small-scale industries in rural areas to increase employment opportunities. He was presenting "Kushala Kala" State awards at the valedictory of a State-level handicrafts exhibition. The Chief Minister said handicrafts from the State are in demand all over the country. "We should encourage our craftsmen and create a market for their products," he said. He complimented Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (KSHDCL) for achieving a record sale turnover of Rs. 27.50 crores in 2003-2004.
Award winners
The award winners are Hafeez Ur Rehaman Khan, R. Devaraj, B.G. Manjunatha, Mohammed Arifuddin, Narayanappa Sennappa, Annappa K. Acharaya, B.L. Radhakrishna and H. Gurupada. Sixteen others were given "Kushala Kala" merit certificates. The Minister for Industries and Infrastructure, P.G.R. Sindhia; the Chief Secretary, K.K. Misra; the Principal Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Industries, N. Gokul Ram and G. Latha Krishna Rao, respectively; and the KSHDCL Managing Director, P.B. Ramamurthy, were present.
