TDP stalling projects: Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MARCH 23. The Congress Legislature Party has accused the Telugu Desam Party of attempting to stall irrigation projects on some pretext or the other.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the secretaries of the CLP -- E. Pratap Reddy, S. Gangaram and K. Surekha -- said the objections raised by the TDP to the mobilisation advances to contractors were frivolous since the TDP Government had given 10 per cent of the cost as advances.

The Congress had reduced it to 5 per cent and was not allowing any revised costs or deviation costs as the TDP did. Moreover, the TDP track record in unilaterally handing over contracts to its choice companies was well known, they said.

`Costs revised by TDP'

The SRSP works were initially grounded at Rs.491 crores but were later revised to Rs.631 crores by the TDP Government in the past just as it had revised the Avuku reservoir cost from Rs.74 crores to Rs.92 crores.

The SLBC power project was allotted to a contractor at 30 per cent higher cost and the works were sub-contracted for only 60 per cent of the tender cost.
