VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 23. The Joint Action Committee of the employees of four general insurance companies has demanded that the Government and the management of the General Insurance Public Sector Association take steps to announce wage revision to the insurance employees at the earliest.

The employees of the insurance companies -- National Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company and United India Insurance Company -- staged a rally in the city as part of the two-day strike announced by the national level employees unions in protest against the adamant attitude of the management in announcing wage revision due from August 2002.

`Offer not acceptable'

The JAC Krishna region convenor, K. Varaprasada Rao, said in a press release here that the management of the Government did not concede their demand for announcing wage revision and the management's offer of 8.5 per cent revision was not acceptable to the employees.

Though the employees staged demonstrations and went on strike in December last year, the management was not coming forth to concede their demands.

In view of this, it was decided to launch the two-day nationwide strike to press the management to solve the long-pending demands of the employees, he said.

The joint action committee was also demanding withdrawal of the Government's move to hike Foreign Direct Investment in insurance sector, merger of the public sector general insurance companies and amendment to Motor Vehicle Third Party Liability Act.
