By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 23. The Krishna District Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, has stressed the need for the voluntary organisations to help the Government in taking up relief and rehabilitation works during the natural calamities. Towards this end, there was also a need to ensure effective coordination between all those concerned for helping out genuine victims. Participating as chief guest at a meeting on disaster management organised here on Wednesday, the Collector underlined the need for the voluntary organisations to work in coordination with the Government departments as it would go a long way in ensuring that relief measures reached all the genuinely affected people. While the voluntary organisations were expected to mobilise funds from donors, the administration should ensure their effective utilisation through its resources as well as the technical expertise in handling such situations. n this context, he said that the cyclone shelters constructed at Avanigadda in the aftermath of the cyclone that hit the Krishna coast in 1997 were rendered useless as they were not maintained properly.
