DEHRA DUN, MARCH 23. Jubilant over the internal conflicts of the ruling Congress that forced adjournments in the Uttaranchal Vidhan Sabha over the past two days, the Bharatiya Janata Party staged demonstrations at various district headquarters and burnt effigies of the Tiwari Government yesterday and sought its dismissal on the ground that it had lost the confidence of its own MLAs. The entire Opposition, BJP, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and the Bahujan Samaj Party have also sent fax messages to the Governor, Sudarshan Aggarwal, presently in Pithoragarh urging him to dismiss the Tiwari Government and order fresh polls so that a popular Government could be elected. It may be mentioned that the Uttaranchal Assembly witnessed an unusual scene yesterday as several ruling party MLAs joined the former Revenue Minister, Harak Singh Rawat seeking a discussion on the conspiracy that framed him (Mr. Rawat) in the Jenny sex scandal that was proved false by the CBI as well as a local court. The entire Opposition supported the dissenting MLAs by thumping desks even as the Parliamentary Affairs and PWD Minister, Indira Hirdeyesh announced that a discussion could not be allowed as the matter was sub-judice. The Speaker adjourned the House till March 28 as the dissenting MLAs refused to calm down. This reply of the Government took the dissidents within the Congress as well as the Opposition by surprise as Mr Rawat had earlier told them that all cases pertaining to the Jenny sex scandal had either been decided by the court or withdrawn by him. "The development has come as a serious setback for Tiwari baiters who were trying to use the Rawat case to promote the `oust Tiwari' campaign," a senior Congress leader said. The Congress high command is said to have taken a strong view of the embarrassment caused to the party's Government in the State by supporters of the State Congress president, Harish Rawat and asked him to ensure peace in the State unit before it was too late.
