CHANDIGARH, MARCH.23. The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said here today that the State Government, with the assistance of USAID, was all geared up to face the formidable challenges posed by Tuberculosis (TB). In a message issued here on the eve of World TB Day, he said that Haryana was fully covered under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP). More than 5,000 Directly Observed Treatment (DOTS) centres, 204 microscopic centres and 45 TB units were functioning in the State. Emphasis was laid on sputum examination than x-ray examination. At present, nearly 34,000 patients in Haryana had access under the DOTS, which was a highly effective strategy, he added. He also applauded the involvement of 194 private practitioners, 250 community volunteers and 25 non-government organisations which were working for this programme without any incentive. He said that RNTCP had reduced the morbidity and mortality rate of the disease. He appealed to the public to visit the Government Health Institutions where free investigation and free treatment was being provided to the patients. TB was totally curable provided timely treatment was given to the patients. In her message, the Health Minister, Kartar Devi, said that the State Government was all set to make Haryana a TB free state. She appealed to all the private doctors, community volunteers and non-government organisations to join hands with the Government in this battle against TB.
