dated March 25, 1955: Second Five-Year Plan

Prime Minister Nehru said in Allahabad on March 23 that the Second Five-Year Plan would be a people's plan. It would aim at providing employment and adequate food, clothing and housing. Mr. Nehru, who was addressing a public meeting, said nothing could be achieved without the cooperation of the people. For the formulation of the Second Five-Year Plan, he wanted to know the opinion of the gram panchayats and the masses because it should be a people's plan. They must remember that the object was that everyone should get equal opportunity to develop himself without any distinction.
