Paying glowing tributes to Subbulakshmi (who died on December 11, 2004), the Speaker, M.D.R. Ramachandran, said that her contributions in the field of Carnatic music did India proud. Referring to the yeoman services of Narasimha Rao, who died on December 23, he said Rao was a statesman and a linguist besides being an economic reformer.

The Speaker also paid homage to Aladi Aruna, saying the late leader was a prolific writer and a robust thinker. An obituary reference was also made to all those killed in the tsunami of December 26, 2004.
