Case filed against BCCI chief, Ehsan Mani

CHENNAI, MARCH 24. A Chennai-based club filed two more contempt of court applications against the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Ehsan Mani, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Ranvir Singh Mahendra.

The VI Assistant City Civil Judge, M. Mohaideen Pitchai, before whom the applications filed by Sir Theyagaraya Recreation Club, came up for admission, ordered notices to the chiefs of the ICC and the BCCI, returnable by March 28.

Citing media reports, the Club submitted that the ICC spokesperson had been quoted as saying that the former BCCI president, Jagmohan Dalmiya, represented the BCCI at the recent ICC meeting at New Delhi. The petitioner-club said that Mr. Dalmiya had been permitted to represent the Board at the ICC meet despite a clear injunction on the Board to depute Mr. Dalmiya as its representative to any of the ICC meetings.

On the same ground, the Club had already initiated contempt proceedings against Mr. Dalmiya and the incumbent honorary secretary of the BCCI, S.K. Nair. All the four contempt pleas are now scheduled for March 28. — Our Staff Reporter
