Tea grower hacked to death

GUWAHATI, MARCH 24. A tea grower was hacked to death by a mob of casual tea garden workers in upper Assam's Dibrugarh district today. The incident sparked retaliation by some residents who set fire to 11 huts belonging to the workers.

Police said that the tea grower, Digen Bora, was hacked to death following an altercation. The incident occurred at Dikahri Nepaligaon under the Moran police station at 9.40 a.m. Police and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

On February 11 last, a tea garden owner, Rupak Gogoi, was hacked and then burnt to death by a mob of about 250 workers of his own garden in upper Assam's Golaghat district.
