Baloch talks "useful"

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD, MARCH 24. The Pakistan Muslim League president and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Balochistan, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, today held talks with the rebel leader, Nawab Mohammad Akbar Khan Bugti, in the trouble-torn town Dera Bugti.

Accompanied by the ruling combine Secretary General, Mushahid Hussain Syed, the former Prime Minister discussed with Mr. Bugti for over four hours issues related to unrest in the province and what could be done to defuse the tension.

The Baloch leader told an all-party delegation on Tuesday that the situation was the creation of the federal government and it was for Islamabad to work a way out.

He complained about the harassment meted out by the security forces to the people of Balochistan and how its natural resources had been plundered.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain described the talks as useful and positive.

He said the talks were part of the Government's efforts to find a political solution.

The President, Pervez Musharraf, has said strict action would be taken if the series of attacks in Balochistan continue.
