LONDON, MARCH 24. The Tussauds Group, owner of the famous Madame Tussauds waxwork museums housing images of world celebrities including Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, was sold for £800 million today to an investment firm backed by the Government of Dubai. Dubai International Capital, a private equity group set up in October, pledged to continue the international expansion of the Tussauds group, which has already broadened its empire from its London base. The group now also has waxworks museums housing images of celebrities, sports stars and politicians in New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. Tussauds was founded in 1802 after Madame Tussaud brought to London a waxwork collection that she had inherited in Paris. After touring the country with the exhibition for 33 years, she set up a museum in London. AP
