Farmers oppose school on tankbed

TUMKUR, MARCH 24. Farmers in Baddihalli Tank command area here on Thursday expressed shock at the statement of G.S. Basavaraju, senior Congress leader and former Tumkur MP, that the Kendriya Vidyalaya school will be built on the tankbed.

However, Ramanayak, Ramesh and Sannalingaiah, farmers' leaders, told presspersons that the school will be built on some other site. They said C. Channigappa, district in-charge and Sericulture Minister, asked the officials to stop filling the tank on March 10. But on Wednesday, Mr. Basavaraju told presspersons that the school will be built on the tankbed. "We are shocked over his statement," farmers said.
