Scribes trained in `farm journalism'

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI, MARCH 24. An interactive session between farm scientists and journalists was organised by ANGRAU's Extension Education Institute at Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College here on Thursday.

The event was aimed at orienting the scientists, working in District Agriculture Advisory and Technology Transfer Centres (DAATTC) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK), towards what is called "Farm journalism", which is about making effective use of the mass media to reach out to the target group, that is, the farming community.

Bridging `gap'

Though scientists achieve great results at the lab, the failure in translating the same into tangible results at the farm is generally attributed to the lack of communication skills to draft the information in the specific format as required by the newspapers and TV channels. This session was aimed at reducing this "gap."

Journalists from half a dozen newspapersinteracted with the scientists. The nuances in collecting news, writing stories for newspapers, radio and television etc. were explained to the scientists.
