Thrissur
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, MARCH 24. Life has been miserable in Thrissur since last evening because of the disruption of power supply after a fire in a transformer at the Aswini Hospital area. The sultry summer heat and the relentless attack of belligerent mosquitoes had been making the days and nights in the city horrible for the last several weeks. Power supply is being maintained for one hour alternatively in each area using the transformers which are working. Power supply could not be restored even till 8 p.m. Even though the Mayor, K. Radhakrishnan, said that the supply would be resumed soon, nothing could be done. The civic authorities came in for severe criticism for not being able to take any proactive steps to address the power crisis. There were several warnings about the impending troubles for the transformers in the city which are over-loaded because of the tremendous increase in the number of connections. The Mayor said steps were being taken to replace the damaged transformer before the ensuing Thrissur Pooram festival.
