Ex-naxal shot dead by Maoists
According to information reaching the district headquarters, three armed Maoists around 9 p.m. picked up Shivudu while he was talking to some villagers in front of one Nagi Shetty house. He was dragged to village courtyard where Maoists, after branding Shivudu a police informer, pumped two bullets into him. Later, they hit him with boulder on the face, resulting in death on the spot. Before fleeing the scene the Maoists told the villagers that there were three more persons acting as police informers and that they would also meet the same fate as Shivudu if they did not mend their ways.
Selected teachers plan rally
C. Bhupati Rao, president, B. Venkat, general secretary, in a statement issued here on Thursday said the rally would begin at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Bagh Lingampally.
New posting for 3 IPS officers
Sandeep Shandilya was transferred from Intelligence wing and posted as the new DCP, South Zone. The Grey Hounds Group Commander, Anil Kumar, was transferred and posted as the Hyderabad DCP-1 (Traffic).
Demand to install Pingali's statue
Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha, the TDP MP, K. Rama Mohana Rao, said Pingali Venkaiah had died in poverty in a small hut near Vijayawada and his only dream was to see the national flag flutter atop the Red Fort. "But the most pitiable thing is neither he nor his family members could afford to take him to Delhi to see the National Flag flying on the red Fort,'' Mr. Rao said.

Two drowned in river
According to the police, two of the three students, went for swimming, were drowned. The dead were identified as Sunil Raju and Sudheer.
Police come under criticism
In a statement here on Thursday, R. Subhash Chandra Bose, secretary of the party, criticised the police for registering cases in connection with the attack on the Chilakaluripet police station and killing of a constable in Mahabubmagar district. This reflected the Government's `vengeful' attitude, he said adding that conspiracy case showed `dictatorial' tendencies.

Five killed as lorries collide
While one person died on the spot, four others, including a farmer, succumbed to their injuries in hospital at Narsaraopet. The accident occurred when a tomato-laden lorry was going from Kurnool to Narsaraopet hit against an empty lorry going from Narasaraopet to Vinukonda. The tomato farmer, Venkataramana (50) of Raichoti, was among the dead. The others died in the mishap were Bathula Ankarao (20), Bathula Subbarao (22) and Komaragiri Anjaiah (40) and the cleaner of the lorry, Chinta Ravi (40).
Suicide bid by murder accused
Urimindi Ramasubba Reddy of Gudem village in Badvel mandal, was charged with murdering his wife, Ramalakshmamma and daughter, Sunitha, around midnight on July 8 last year after an altercation on a complaint lodged with the police by his father-in-law, Devireddy Gopal Reddy.

Minister coming
His schedule include a visit to the SSLC reservoir and inauguration of Telugu Ganga Project Rehabilitation Centre at Pokuurupalli. At Sankrantipalli, the Minister will review Indira Prabha and Aasra schemes, besides distributing gas connections to women. In the afternoon he will visit Kandaleru and Somasila reservoirs and have a discussion with the officials before leaving for Hyderabad, the same day.
ST panel member's visit
The next day, he will hold a meeting in the office of Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Nellore, with the District Tribal Welfare Officers of Nellore, Prakasam, Chittoor and Cuddapah regarding tribal development activities, implementation of various developmental schemes for STs, with particular emphasis on public distribution system for tribal people.
Urdu cassette for students
Stating this, the academy general secretary and poet, Sattar Faizi, and music director, Syed Nayeem, said in a statement that the audio cassette for Urdu students was the first of its kind.
Ten injured as bus overturns
The students were coming to the SSC examination centre at Orvakal. After first aid, the students appeared for the examination. The authorities allowed them to appear for the examination an hour late.
