One lakh jobs planned under Rajiv Yuva Shakthi

HYDERABAD, MARCH 24. The Government is planning to spend Rs.700 crores next year on generating one lakh jobs under the Rajiv Yuva Shakthi, the Youth Services Minister, T. Harish Rao, informed the Assembly on Thursday.

He told N. Amarnatha Reddy (TDP) and others that 29,517 groups were selected as against 30,000 applications since the scheme was launched in November. The amount disbursed, including the beneficiaries' contribution, was Rs. 265.09 crores.

Rejecting the TDP charge that Congressmen were favoured, he said 4.10 lakh applications were received for 30,000 units. All the applicants were called for interview. Training would be provided to the selected beneficiaries in municipalities/ rural areas. Tourist centres

The Tourism Minister, J. Geetha Reddy, informed K. Murali Mohan (Congress) that several tourist centres were being developed to attract foreigners. The department was participating in international travel marts. Foreign tourists visiting the State had increased to 4,79,318 in 2003 from 78,713 in 2000.

She said the Centre had agreed to a proposal to hold the Dakshin Utsav in Delhi to promote southern tourism. The South Tourism Ministers would meet here in the last week of April.

Hostel posts

The Social Welfare Minister, Redya Naik, said all vacant posts of wardens/matrons in social welfare hostels would be filled before the next academic year. There were 196 vacancies in girls hostels. He said that women teachers would be appointed, if necessary. The headmaster and deputy matron were suspended after an eighth class student of the tribal welfare hostel in Adilabad district had a delivery.

Village servants

The Revenue Minister, D. Prasada Rao, told N. Narasimaiah (CPI-M), that the Government had constituted a Group of Ministers to consider regularisation of the services of village servants, among others.
