Man held on charge of cheating neighbour

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 24. A `tantric' ritual to cover up for cheating! That was what a private hospital worker allegedly tried to do and got caught by the Sanatnagar police here on Thursday.

The accused, G. Ramu, 30, a resident of Indira Gandhi Nagar, allegedly duped his neighbour, Vara Prasad, of Rs. 2 lakh, promising to get him a job in the railways. When he could not keep his word and Mr. Prasad and his brother, Durga, insisted on the return of the money, he came up with the `tantric' offer to compensate for the debt.

The accused promised to unearth the `hidden treasure' of pots containing gold from their house. He also asked the brothers to bring him water from Shirdi and Tirupati for invoking the spirits. For 45 days, Ramu held prayers in their house. Later, realising that they were taken for a ride, the brothers approached the Sanatnagar police who in turn arrested Ramu.
