HYDERABAD, MARCH 24. The construction of multi-storeyed Paryatak Bhavan, near the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's residence, was taken up without municipal permission. This was revealed in the Assembly on Thursday by the Tourism Minister, J.Geetha Reddy, while answering a query by P. Janardhana Reddy (Congress). Nevertheless, the Government instructed the AP Tourism Development Corporation to obtain permission before embarking on further construction, she said. She said two labourers died and 11others were injured in roof collapse of the building on December 8. Compensation of Rs.4,23,580 was paid to the dependents of G. Jangaiah and Rs.3,68,340 to those of P. Nagender Reddy, according to the award passed by Commissioner, Workmen's Compensation. Ex gratia of Rs.50,000 each was paid under the Apathbandu scheme. The balance would be paid shortly. The contractor had spent Rs.1.81 lakhs for treating the injured.
Compensation issue
Regarding the payment of compensation to the injured, she said the Government was awaiting report of the Gandhi Hospital Medical Board, which would meet on April 15. On the demand by Mr. Reddy and M. A. Gafoor (CPI-M) for action against those responsible for the mishap, she said the report of a high-powered technical committee was expected in a day or two. Based on it appropriate action would be taken. Police investigation was on. A deputy executive engineer was already transferred.
Another case
In a written answer, the Municipal Administration Minister, K. Ranga Rao, said the petrol pump established by M/s Indian Oil Corporation on plot no.1354, Jubilee Hills, was without MCH permission. Action was being taken by the MCH following the process of law on unauthorised erection of the petrol bunk.
