BANGALORE, MARCH 24. The Test match between India and Pakistan being played here cast its shadow, as it were, on the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly with a number of members finding the match more interesting than the discussion on Budget in the House. The members gathered in front of television sets after a dainty lunch hosted by the Minister for Sericulture, C. Channigappa. Only 23 members, including three Ministers, were present when Araga Jnanedra of the BJP resumed his speech on the Budget at 2.45 p.m. Vatal Nagaraj (Kannada Chaluvali) took the Government to task and requested the Speaker, Krishna, to summon the members of the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) to the House. The Minister for Revenue, M.P. Prakash, who was present with the Water Resources Minister, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, and the Social Welfare Minister, Y. Nagappa, expressed regrets and said non-attendance of members is not a good sign. Meanwhile, the Speaker instructed the Congress Chief Whip, Abhayachandra Jain, to ensure the attendance of the party members. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Minister for Industry, P.G.R. Sindhia, walked into the House and replied to some of the questions.
