KOCHI, MARCH 24. General insurance employees and officers struck work for the second consecutive day on Thursday. The strike was total in Kerala, according to P.P.Mohanan, convener of the Joint Action Committee. All general insurance offices in the State, including the four regional offices in Kochi, remained closed. The employees would intensify the strike if the General Insurers Public Sector Association (GIPSA) continued its attitude towards the demands, he said in a statement. The demands include resumption of wage revision talks and implementation of promotion. The present wage pact expired on July 31 in 2002. Employees of the four general insurance companies of United India Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company, National Insurance Company and Oriental Insurance Company are taking part in the strike. The employees staged a protest demonstration in front of the New India Assurance Company regional office on M.G. Road in Kochi.
