THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 24. The Neyyatinkara police today seized 875 litres of spirit which were being transported in an SUV on the Kaliyikkavila-Balaramapuram route tonight. Two persons in the SUV abandoned the vehicle and fled after a chase. A police team led by the Neyyatinkara Circle Inspector tried to stop the vehicle near the Neyyatinkara bus stand at 8.30 p.m. The police jeep pursued the vehicle. The SUV was found abandoned at the TB junction. The police recovered 25 jerry cans of spirit, each of 35-litre capacity. The spirit was later taken to the Neyyatinkara police station. Earlier in the day, a police raid yielded 6,000 litres of wash from a canal at Elavanikkara in Neyyatinkara. The wash was stored in 320 pots that were tied and immersed in a canal. The police said no one was arrested in this connection. The wash was destroyed after the raid.
