By Our Staff Reporter

ERODE, MARCH 25. The Bannari Amman temple authorities in Bannari are getting ready to conduct the annual `Kundam' (fire walking) festival on March 29. Now Bannariamman idol is being taken out in procession to various places every day.

The `Kundam' would be performed in front of the temple on March 29 and more than a lakh devotees are expected to participate in it. The district administration has declared a holiday on March 29. To compensate the holiday, April 16 will be a working day, the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, today said.

In connection with the Bannariamman festival, a temporary sales exhibition would be organised around the temple, which would showcase products of self-help groups, he said.

In Erode, the annual Periya Mariamman, Chinna Mariamman and Vaikkal Mariamman festivals have started and the `Kundam' and temple chariot function would be performed on March 30. Today more than 1,000 members of the Karungalpalayam Vessel Merchants Association collected water from Cauvery River and came to the Periya Mariamman temple in a procession. They poured the water over the `kambam' planted in the temple.
