DURBAN, MARCH 25. Medium-pacers Amita Sharma and Jhulan Goswami ran through the Ireland batting line-up as India registered a comfortable nine-wicket win in its second league encounter of the women's cricket World Cup at Pretoria. Sharma (three for 12) and Goswami (two for 15) wrecked the opponent's top order as India bowled out Ireland for just 65 runs and then achieved the modest target in just 17.2 overs. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Ireland lost its first four wickets with just seven runs on the board. The win also gave India six valuable points and took it to second spot in the table with a total of nine. India's first match against Sri Lanka was washed out. Meanwhile, England thrashed Sri Lanka by 214 runs to take the top spot on a better run-rate. Batting first England scored 284 for four in 50 overs thanks to a 128-ball 136 by Claire Taylor. In reply, Sri Lanka could make only 70 in 26 overs. In other matches, South Africa defeated West Indies by just one run while Australia defeated defending champion New Zealand by 32 runs. PTI
