TDP alleges bid to stifle Opposition voice

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 25. The Telugu Desam Party has blamed the Congress for the lesser number of business hours in the Assembly compared with earlier budget sessions and has alleged that the ruling party is using every method to stifle the voice of the Opposition.

At a press conference here on Friday, the TDLP deputy leader, Y. Ramakrishnudu, accused the Congress of dragging discussions on issues in the House, thus giving the Opposition less time to take up issues of public concern.

Comparisons

He said while the TDP was in power, budget sessions saw business being transacted for 212 hours in 2001, 200 in 2002 and 205 in 2003. In contrast, the number of hours during the current budget session was 180 hours.

As of now, with just four days to go until March 31, the current session had clocked 156 hours. Even assuming that 25 hours would be used for business, it would mean a total of 181 hours, he said.
