DAVANGERE, MARCH 25. The Davangere City Municipal Council has sought Rs. 1 crore to tackle the drinking water problem in Davangere city. Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, the president of the council, D. Basavaraj, said that several wards in the city are facing severe drinking water shortage. He said that the council has taken temporary measures to supply potable water to these areas. The money will help solve the drinking water problem in summer, he added. The council has submitted a proposal for Rs. 8 crores to the Urban Development Ministry under the Nirmala Nagar project. The council proposes to purchase tippers, tractors, and other equipment from the department to collect and dispose of garbage. Mr. Basavaraj said that the statue of Dr. Ambedkar erected in front of the council's office here will be inaugurated on April 14. On the same day, the foundation stone for the statue of Jagjivan Ram will be laid. The president discounted the allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party that there has been misappropriation of Rs. 2 crores.
