Mangalore
By Our Staff Correspondent
MANGALORE, MARCH 25. There is a proposal to bring the offices of the Joint Director, Department of Collegiate Education, under the purview of universities, the Registrar of Mangalore University, K. Sundar Naik, has said. While this is primarily for administrative purposes, it could be a precursor to the abolition of the office of the Director of Collegiate Education, he added. Interacting with presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Naik said no final decision has been taken in this regard. He noted that if the proposal is accepted, universities will be then be bound to provide necessary infrastructure, including buildings, to accommodate the office. The office in Mangalore is presently located behind the taluk panchayat office. Mr. Naik said the Government is also thinking about handing over the administration of government colleges to the respective universities. This is to ensure that government colleges get a share of the funds that universities receive, he added. On complaints about managements not paying teachers minimum salaries as prescribed by the university, Mr. Naik said things have improved now.
