By Our Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 25. The Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, Y.C. Simhadri, on Friday unveiled the bust of Sir A. Parasuram Patro at the T.L.N. Sabha Hall on the university premises.

Patro was one among those who was instrumental in the establishment of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, said the former Director-General of Police, H.J. Dora, who participated as chief guest.

He recalled that Patro, who had come from a rural background in Berhampore, had carved a niche for himself as a lawyer. The kings and zamindars of Orissa were his clients. When he was the Education Minister, he got the Bill passed for establishment of Andhra University.

Mr. Dora went nostalgic while recalling his days as a student in AU. "When I was the students' union president, we used to hold meetings in this very hall (TLN Sabha Hall). I remember that the Assembly was once held here during the tenure of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy as the Chief Minister of the State,'' he said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Y.C. Simhadri, felicitated Mr. Dora with a shawl.

The granddaughter of Patro, Bharati Surya Rao, and the AU Law College Principal, R. Venkata Rao, spoke.

The former Union Minister, K. Yeeran Naidu, the Raja of Bobbili, Ranga Rao, the noted sculptor and faculty in the Fine Arts Department, Ravi Shankar Patnaik, who sculpted the bust of Patro, and the architect who designed the pedestal, Nanda Kishore, and a host of professors were among those who attended the meeting.
