BELGAUM, MARCH 26. The Lokayukta Police have arrested Belgaum Taluk Panchayat executive officer, engineer and four secretaries of gram panchayats, for their alleged involvement in irregularities in selecting beneficiaries for Ashraya houses. According to the Lokayukta police, the panchayat officials were arrested and produced before the court on Thursday. They have been remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. Sources said the officials had committed irregularities to the tune of Rs. 80,000.
