WASHINGTON, MARCH 26. A person of Indian origin was arrested on charges of murdering his mother at their residence in the Great Falls area of Washington. Jayant Kadian (20) was charged with first-degree murder for killing his mother, Kiran Kadian (52), police said. Mr. Jayant was found asleep in his car at a garage in the James Madison University in Harrisonburg, police said. The campus police also found marijuana in the car and arrested him on another misdemeanour possession charge. Sources close to the case said that the accused had blood on his clothes when he was arrested. Court records show that Mr. Jayant was charged by campus police with possession of marijuana in September 2003 and that he twice failed to comply with conditions of his probation before the case was dismissed in Rockingham County court in December 2004. The body of Ms. Kiran, a prominent community worker, was discovered by her author and gastroenterologist husband, Rajesh, on Thursday while his son, Mr. Jayant was missing. Ms. Kiran was stabbed several times in the upper body, Fairfax police spokeswoman, Mary Mulrenan said. She was described by the neighbours as ``a lovely woman, a very devoted mother.'' She was very religious and spent a lot of time in India in the summers. PTI
