ISO certification for police station

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 26 The Jeedimetla police station, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, has become the first ever police station in the country to be conferred with the International Standards for Quality Management Systems certificate, ISO 9001: 2000.

Terming it a milestone in the history of the State police, a beaming Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Mahendar Reddy, said that he had plans to go for International Standards for Quality Management Systems in all police stations and work units in his jurisdiction in the next six months.

At a function organised to announce the achievement at the police station today, Mr. Reddy said the ISO certification would go a long way in fructifying efforts of the Cyberabad police in transforming themselves into a people-friendly, process-driven and responsive police organisation.

"With this certification, our responsibilities have increased. We are working towards building a community-centric organisation," Mr. Mahendar Reddy asserted. He underlined the need for improving the quality of services. "Merely getting the certification is not enough. We have to improve our services each day," he said.

The International Certifications Services will conduct a surveillance audit every six months to check the quality of services provided, customer complaints, management responsibility and changes in the organisation. "If they are not satisfied, they can withdraw the certification," Mr. Reddy said. "Over the last couple of years, we have seen a change in the attitude of policemen in Cyberabad. Already, half the battle is won," commented G.K. Chowdary, Managing Director of Vasanth Chemicals, who helped the Cyberabad police in getting certified.

The certificate will formally be handed over to the police station shortly.
